Talking New 1969 camaro owner

Hello fellow car lovers , just a quick intro . A week ago i was able to make my dream come true , been looking/saving a few dollars a month for close to 16 years , it has happened . found and tracked the owner down , the car is a very nice surviver base model , very base V8 4 speed single leaf manual steering & brakes . Dover white black interior , looks to be 95% original , intake and carb were replaced , but orig. were left in the trunk .

will be needing some help on the ignition soon , seems to have had the resistor wire fry at some point and then it was rigged up to start with a jumper wire straight from the starter to battery, you actually have to touch the wire to the batt ! a few other things like the neutral safety switch was cut and bypassed ! going to try and get it all back factory .

Re: New 1969 camaro owner

Welcome Ray and nice find. Considering you may have some ignition issues and other wire problems you may want to consider getting new harnesses for piece of mind.

Re: New 1969 camaro owner

Hey Ray,

Very nice car and follow through on your 16 year Camaro savings plan. Now continue that plan with your retirement account!

Say, which 4 speed transmission is in the car and I assume you have a 10 bolt limited slip rear end with mono leafs, right?

Enjoy.

Re: New 1969 camaro owner

So yeah soup sandwich wiring wise but could be worse. The current carburetor uses an electric choke, the original used a divorced choke so it will not be needed. I think it is the red lead in your video that is spliced into the wiper line. The power to the aftermarket gauge pac - the blue wire - seems to be hitting a 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker mounted under the dash. The NSS override is typical and not so cool.

The American Autowire Factory Fit line is top notch and will eliminate all your issues. I assume you ordered a full harness? If you wish to retain the aftermarket gauges you will have to use the wiring there already, or convert the existing non console gauge service stub to a factory style gauge (sawtooth) gauge pac and console. It is an easy conversion and might as well do it all at once
