Rookie

Sup guys , my name is Phil am I'm from the Philadelphia area. I'm was a Ford guy but I crossed to the dark side . Even though I still have my 03 Mercury Marauder , I'm ready for some real power. My uncle gave me his 1981 Camaro with a 305 and a four speed manual transmission. Also I received a 1972 chevy C 20 , but it was too rusted out and I had to junk it. But the engine is a 350 4 bolt main with 60,000 miles on it. My plan is to drop the 350 in the Camaro .

Can you guys point me in the right direction for my first chevy build ? Will that be a good swap ? Should I get different heads ? Any information would be greatly appreciated .

Re: Rookie

Welcome, Phil. Enjoy the ride. Nice gift from Uncle.
Go for the gusto, get a 406 CID, alum heads, OE valve covers, and paint all Chebbie orange for the sleeper look.
Might check rear gear ratio, may need to update to 3.7 at least.

Re: Rookie

Welcome to the bright side.
Plenty of heads to choose from.

One thing you can do is look at the parts lists on crate motors that interest you and pick what you wan from those, so you already have an idea of how they will perform.

Re: Rookie

4.XX gears are great for the track but stink for cruising.(unless you got an OD trans.)
I would say something in the mid-3's for the best of both worlds....decent cruising and give up a few tenths at the track.

4 bolt main are the more desirable blocks (unless a 400SBC GM block) So, yes a solid foundation to build on.
