Just another FNG

Hey all, I've got my 68 Camaro finally up and running better but its still long way from being finished. Of course, finishing someone else's project is always challenging since you not only have to finish everything but also re-do so many completed things that weren't quite right.

So I thought I'd join the forum with the wealth of Camaro information. I had a couple of Camaros back in the day (a 67 RS and a 70 Z28) but for the last couple of decades, and especially since I retired, I've had Tri-five Chevys. However, after selling off my last 55 Chevy and trying the typical old guy route of a Corvette convertible I decided to get another old car. I was actually looking for a Chevelle SS when I found this Camaro.

So here I am. I hope to tap the expertise of all the experts on this forum to help me finish the Camaro. However, I also hope I can contribute to the forum as well. I was in the car biz my whole life starting as a mechanic for a couple of decades and then a shop owner before becoming a dealership service manager. I finally retired after working the last few years as an outside rep for the parts deptartments of my dealership group.

BTW-here's a picture of the car now that its up running well. I still need to install the front bumper and finish the stock hood so I can get rid of that oversize cowl induction on it as well as long list of other things.

Very cool ! I also have a 68 big block.

What are your plans ? Make it look original or custom ?

I'm just trying to make it as stock appearing as possible on the outside and in the interior. Under the hood its another story. It has a March serpentine belt system and Vintage Air so along with an early 70's 454 there's so much modified it makes no sense to go original. Plus I have no documentation on the car anyway so it doesn't make economic sense to me.

I'm mostly just trying to get the finished car and make it a more of a highway cruiser along the way. I got the carburation and intake changed so I can install the stock hood when its done. After that I need to go back into the engine when funds permit to change the cam and setup. Its severely over-cammed now. Then it needs highway gears for the 12 bolt or a Gear Vendor.

Then on to finish the interior along with fixing all the numerous flaws on the car. It'll be a long project for me with my limited funds and spotty health but it'll be fun.
