68 z28

I recently purchased a 68 Z28 out of Portland Oregon area. This car was sold new at Ed Randell Chevytown,Portland and I purchased from second owner who has had since 1972.
The car has all original panels and one repainted in 1976. The interior was out of the car for 20 years while it was drag raced, and is mint.
I have spent the last 6 weeks correcting a number of Underwood mismatched parts.
The Color combo of this car is identical to my first car a 68 with base 327 and auto.

Re: 68 z28

After four years of ownership and some pleasant summer cruizing Its time to do upgrades for this car.

Here is how it looked in the summer of 2015 after detailing and swapping in some correct parts.

Plans are to install a correct date coded BV rare end, correct M21 Trans and a date coded MO block with all correct parts. The headers will stay, no smog equipment and a complete detailing. I am not planning a repaint yet as the car still wears its 1976 Paint job well on most places.

Last week ,the car went on my hoist to remove the incorrect diff and trans and a cleanup was started on the underside.
Please note the wheelwell undercoating as applied in the Van Nuys plant and the corvette bronze overs spray. This car spent its entire life in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and I suspect it never saw rain.

Cleanup was done with various cleaners that included Zep505, WashnWipe, over cleaner and Spray Nine, then sprayed with a ligh coat of LPS.
The game plan is to clean the entire underside this way, restore the leaf springs, new gas tank, re install the exhaust and then the diff.
Subframe and engine install in phase 2.

Partway through the cleaning of the trunk floor underside and the over axle area, exhaust was removed.

You Dog !!! You have my favorite year, model, and color.
Congrats on ownership. She looks beautiful to say the least.
I know you will continue enjoying your journey into the future as you have in the past.
She will return the favor you've given her with smiles from you and thumbs up from spectators as you both pass by.

Give a man a rescued dog for the health of both their souls. May 2017 ROTM Winner - Thank you!

Re: 68 z28

I'd say there's only 2 places in N. America that get more rain than the Willamette Valley; Seattle an Vancouver BC ! lol The color sure does POP up there though ! Beautiful...

I've got a pretty nice original bucket seat cover (749 interior) that needs a new home.
