Hello from Georgia

Hey everyone. I am new here and also new to 1st generation Camaros. I am 41 years old and grew up with full size 61-69 Chevrolets and later messed with some 68-72 Novas, a 64 Chevelle, and several 4th generation F-bodies. I still have my fist car, a 1961 BelAir "bubbletop" and a 1997 Camaro SS and some other junk too.

I just acquired a '68 Camaro with no engine or transmission. I have known the car for the last 15 years or so and watched it change hands twice and progress from a daily driver to a 555" Nitrous inhaling drag racer that ran 5's in the 1/8th and cut 1.35 second 60' times.

It is primer black with an RS grille set-up and an almost completely bare interior. My plans are to get it running with a 327 and 4 speed that I have and later swap in a larger engine and possibly an LT1 T56 transmission. The front seats are from a late 80's Corvette and are going to be one of the first things to go.
I've already been using the search function here (as well as google) a lot over the last several weeks trying to absorb everything I can, but I am sure I will have lots of questions for everyone so THANKS in advance for helping me out. Jason

Re: Hello from Georgia

Enjoy your journey Jason. It'll be a blast. I moved to the Columbus Ohio area from Marietta GA a few years back. You'll get a lot of great information from a bunch of very knowledgeable members here, so don't be afraid to ask. Still working on my 68 so take your time and do what makes you feel right. Great start and as mentioned correct year.

68, SS, BB, M20 4 speed

Thanks Doug. I know you from LS1Tech. I had to look at your car pictures to confirm. It's hard to see in the pictures, but if you look in the trunk pic you can see where the previous owner cut the cage out. He swapped the drivetrain into a foxbody Rustang to "save" the Camaro.

Re: Hello from Georgia

I ran into my first stumbling block trying to temporarily install the back seat last night. If you look at the trunk picture above, you can see where they made mini-tubs by splitting the rear wheelwells and adding a few inches. It wasn't an off the shelf kit. They also relocated the leafs and went from multi-leaf to Calvert mono-leafs and Caltrac bars. I'm not sure if the stocks are in the stock location at the bottom or not, but the top mount is stock. Original gas tank is long gone and replaced with a 10 gallon fuel cell.

Now the back seat is slightly too wide and I'm worried a stock gas tank won't fit. I guess I'll have to get someone to cut both to fit.
