New kid from the Metro Detroit area.

Hi guys, I'm Joe, and I'm 16. I grew up around this 1968 Camaro that has a 454 and a TH400, and it is my grandfather's car. Assumed to be an original SS396 and it had a 4 spd (Clutch pedal still in it. It's fairly Day 2 thanks to some Cragars, slapper bars, airshocks, the intake, period Sun gauges, and the radio (Pioneer Super-Tuner from the 80s).

I've tried to contact the man who owned it in the 1980s through Facebook, but never got a response.

Yes, actually. Needs new shocks, and a timing tab. Also wanting a shift kit, since it slips and slides a bit.

Re: New kid from the Metro Detroit area.

Alright, I found out a lot since my last post. I got in contact with one guy who owned it in 1987 (at least) and he bought it from a drag racer who sprayed it into the 10s. At least, that's what I was told. Then I contacted the racer and found out more specs. Comp Magnum Hydraulic Flat Tappet cam with .575 degrees lift and .305 duration. 10.25:1 compression as well. According to him, it was an L78 when he bought it from his father's uncle. Both the 4 speed and 396 are long gone though. The racer made no mention of nitrous though.
