New guy: will be lurking

While I'm still a few years out from actually buying my first Camaro, its time to join up and get educated!
I've wanted one since first seeing them at the local Friday night burger joint cruises when I was a broke teenager. Wife, kids, and cars later I'm seeing a faint outline of a Camaro at the end of the tunnel
The gameplan that seems to be sticking with me best is a '68 Z/28 pseudo-clone that will be driven, but forums like this have a way of inspiring other ideas... so as the title says, I'll be lurking!

Welcome to TC
Build a Pseudo Z28 clone, just don't badge it.
Kind of frowned on.

Welcome to the site Alan. You don't say where in MO you are located. Both St. Louis and Kansas City have great Camaro clubs. Maybe you could check out their sites to attend a cruise or show and get some first hand information.

You are in luck then because I have met several members of the Gateway Camaro Club at some shows in your area and they are a great bunch.

Why not have a real '68 Z/28?

Purchase cost and the guilt I'd have to cope with for even considering non-stock modifications or upgrades.
I want a very "Z"-like car in the end (high winding, road-race vibe, etc.), I don't want to stray too far from the car's roots, and I don't want a racecar... but I am quite likely to lower it a bit, use an aftermarket block (Bowtie or Dart??) and heads and such for the engine, and maybe even use a non-factory color/decal package.

And I'd feel muuuuch more comfortable with that blank canvas not being a special rarity like a real Z

Re: New guy: will be lurking

My 67 was originally a plain Jane 6 cyl, 3 speed on the tree. It ened up with the RS lights, 406 sbc, and a 4 speed Muncie, amongst multiple other mods.
