New guy, new to 1st gens

Hello everyone!

My name's Alex and I just bought a 1969 Firebird. Never owned a 1st gen before but have always wanted one. In CA since new (except 3yrs in Texas), not a spec of rust as expected. She has a fresh 461ci Butler Performance monster with over 600ft/tq and about 500hp (after I swap the intake, carb, and do a few other things).

I was referred here by the 3rd and 4th gen guys on FRRAX (I also have a 92 I built for track handling) because I plan on setting my car up for HPDEs, auto-x, and road racing and they said this is the place for 1st gen stuff. I'm not going full dedicated track only car, but as close as I can come and keep the stock interior, except for of course race seats, harnesses, and a custom cage. I don't plan on going crazy with a mini tub, IRS, and I'm only willing to do a 2" drop, not a 3". Plus the car is a driver/track car right now and I will be adding as I go over the next couple of years, not tearing the car apart as if I were doing a dedicated race car. I also use the car for cruise-ins, going to friends houses, and work every now and then.

Anyway, this is no place to post specs of what I have or get feedback, I'm just doing an introduction for now!

I look forward to learning from the real suspension gurus here who actually track their cars and know how to tune and do proper set-ups!

Thanks!! Alex

Welcome to TC! Sounds like a fun car. Required reading IMO would be the first gen suspension page on David Pozzi's site. FIRST GEN SUSPENSION
If you are serious about a track car you should start looking at aftermarket front sub-frames.

68 RS Coupe 355/350 TH, Detroit Speed, Hotchkis, Vintage Air, 8.5" 3.42 posi 10-bolt, MagnaFlow 2 1/2" exhaust, etc.

Haha nice. I'm not a big country music fan but that was worth it for the girl and the cars lol!
