69 Rear end knowledge needed

Hello,
I have a 69 and had the opportunity to turn it into a tour carish like have have wanted. Picked up a nasty 355 with a 5 speed along with a ford 9 all three out of a running driving car. my question is the 9 inch and what to do with the suspension in the rear... dump the leafs which are custom ride or step up to 3 link,4 link ect ect. I have heard enough to confuse me and none of which own such a ride. Thus why i thought i would check with the horses mouth. I don't have a ton to dump into it and don't want mini tube (costs and time) doing the work myself for the most with great help! Thanks for any help

How do you plan to use the car?

Your motor with the 5 speed is a good combo for a 3.73 touring gear . I am not a fan of the 9 Ford as they are known for parasitic drag. But if that's all you have to work with , a 3.90 or shorter may be what you want. As John asked, just what are you going to do with the car.

Re: 69 Rear end knowledge needed

My plans are not staggering by any means, I just want to drive it like it can be driven sometimes and maybe hit the road course here in town every blue moon. I would also like to run my buddies cars and not loose due to not getting hooked up...

What was the 9" out of ?
There may be mods needed to use it

Gullstrand mod the front, stiffer springs, adjustable shocks, front and rear sway-bars, sub-frame connectors, solid body mounts, low profile tires (also wider), all will help in your quest, and be much better than stock, but still street-able....and can be done in stages as you can afford.

Re: 69 Rear end knowledge needed

Thanks Doug we already have Gullstrand springs in front, so there is no real need 4 link it? The 9 is out of a 68 that was set up for touring and only has 2500 miles on it. (373)

If 9 inch from a '68, then should be a direct swap - leaf spring perches?
If so, you might add solid subframe bushings, frame connectors and a set of Comp Eng'rg traction bars, P/N CE2101 - the snubber hits the front spring eye and not the spring.

Give a man a rescued dog for the health of both their souls. May 2017 ROTM Winner - Thank you!
