Finally saying hello!
Hi all, I have been reading articles on this site for quite awhile and have learned a ton. I wanted to post a hello and show my project. I am finally getting enough work going on that I will be posting more questions...
I bought my 327/210hp 68 when I was 15. It was my first car, did some work on it and drove it a couple of years then garaged it until life slowed down and money improved. I'm 43 now and the project is finally in full swing! The drive train is not original but most of the rest of the car is. Tearing into it is fun, it's like a time capsule.
My main goal is to just get the car on the road and have everything mechanically sound. So far I have rebuilt the stock steering, front suspension, rear suspension, fuel system, rear drums, upgraded to front discs, lowered front springs. This weekend i am learning to weld by doing some minor floor pan repair. After that, toss in some underlayment, new carpet and new front seats. Then finally building the 350/350 combo. Hoping to drive it this summer.
the sbc350 is from my late fathers 76 el camino. I am replacing the top end kit with vortec heads, edelbrock performer rpm, comp xe262 cam, street demon 625 carb. I am going to rebuild Dad's TH350 and probably add a transgo shift kit. So just liven up the motor some.
Finish it up with some 15x7 rally wheels (225/60/15 & 245/60/15).
So it is a budget build, but I cant wait to drive this car again after 20 years of it collecting dust!
I wanted to thank all those that came before me in the protection of these cars. I came up with my project specs mainly by reading posts on this forum and deciding what meets my needs and budget.
The attached photo was taken when I finally broke her out of my moms garage a couple of years ago. She wont look much different, but the rotted rubber will finally be gone (and the smog heads from that 76 elky).
