2019 Chevrolet Camaro Spied Testing Facelift and 6-Speed Manual

Quote:
Spy photographers have caught the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro testing its mid-cycle refresh.

The prototype being tested confirms the six-speed manual transmission will still be offered on certain models, but a seven-speed manual may still appear on other high-performance models. AutoGuide.com first reported on the seven-speed manual earlier this year after finding a California Air Resources Board (CARB) document listing the available powertrain options for the updated Camaro. In the document, it said the Chevrolet Camaro would offer three different transmission types: MA6, MA7, and SA8. General Motors then updated the filing to remove the seven-speed though its not clear if that was Chevy covering its tracks, or correcting a mistake.

I just went to the official 2018 Chevrolet website and Camaro build pages.

The standard coupe is listed around $26~ with a 2.0 engine. Adding the 8cyl or SS 6.0 adds over 10K to the price.

I found it hard to navigate the build process and sort of confusing.

I also saw plenty of offers for 2017 leftovers.

If they want to increase sales maybe they should make the build process a little user friendly and offer a standard coupe that can be built to the buyer's wants. This idea of only offering base, LT1, LT2, SS, LT1...yadda, yadda, trim and packages with predetermined goodies, non-goodies, etc. is too confusing and overwhelming to me.

They ought to get back to basics and maybe they would sell.

They don't advertise!
My wife got a 2018 Malibu in late December and we get 2018 Chevy offers regularly. One came just this Friday. You know, the tri-fold glossy brochure with sale and current lease options.
Well all the Chevy models were there except the Camaro and Corvette.

I'm glad you guys said it. Now, I can agree. I didn't wanna say it. LOL!! No wonder sales are down 20%...it's just plain ugly. Not horrific...but ugly. The 2010 model was ugly too when they reintroduced the car. Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for just about anything Chevy makes, but c'mon!! I rented one a few years ago and it was horrible. Poor gas mileage and hard to see over the roof unless I pushed the seat far forwards and I'm not a tall guy, but not a shrimp either at 5' 10". I also didn't like the small side windows. Just my opinion though.

Re: 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Spied Testing Facelift and 6-Speed Manual

I'll play devils advocate. When I saw them introduce the prototype in 2008, I was excited. It was not the full retro version, like the challenger and mustang, but had many styling cues from the first gen. I thought I remember them saying it had the same dimensions as a 69 camaro (length width wheel base).
(I also remember when they introduce the prototype there was a huge jump in first gen camaro prices.)

By the time the 2010 hit the streets in early mid 2009, I thought they were so eye catching. Looked ahead of their time in some ways. IMO very radical for Chevrolet.
The 5th gens still catch my eye today. I was disappointed with the 6th gen. Seems like they missed an opportunity. Great power still, but the car now looked to similar to many other cars. All the styling cues from the 5th gen disappeared, and it looks more like a KIA. If it didn't have a bow tie on it, I don't think it would be recognized as a camaro.
I think they need to ditch the revamp, and come out with a very different 7th gen.

Re: 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Spied Testing Facelift and 6-Speed Manual

Kinda liked them a little when they first came out and somewhat resembled a 69 a little, but really loved the Challenger. Would have bought a Challenger except the last experience with the Chrysler drive train the warrantee was worthless. Thought about a Mustang, but it is a Ford, couldn't convince myself to be seen in one after 1/2 century bashing them.
GM has to sell to the kids of today and those kids like their own styling. Only old farts resist change. I fit that bill. Won't be long before Gen 1 Camaros fade into the past and Gen 2 and 3 are the top collector cars.

Not in my life time or anyone else's, and I am one of the younger guys on here. (30's).

Gen 1 camaros may level off at one point, but I grew up in the late 90's and 2000's and even guys then wanted first gens. I don't meet nearly as many guys that are nostalgic about the 2nd gen. I do meet guys that like the 3rd gen because they came out when they were in high school. But nowhere near the buyers for 3rd gens like a a 1st gen Camaro.

Maybe in another dimension a 2nd or 3rd gen would eclipse the 1st gen, but that would be like saying the Mustang II is about to overtake the 1st gen mustang....

Gen 2 Camaro's are already on the rise.

I wouldn't argue that gen 2 and 3 are on the rise. But big difference between on the rise, and saying a gen 2 is going to overtake a gen 1 IMO.
