New owner of 69 project

Just picked up a project car for too much money, about to spend more money than i should on it. Joined on here to get advice and learn.

My advice, give up your other hobbies, you’re going to need the money. 😉

A good friend who rarely shows up on this site said this once about another who just bought a first gen; He didn't pay too much he just bought it a little early!
The statement was profound and always stuck with me. My first 67 camaro was $500 and just to keep the timeline on the day my friend told me this a nice running driving 67 was $5000 and a nice 10 foot 69 Z28 was $22,000. So I knew he was right and how true it still is today!!!

My prediction is; (if you are a baby boomer as I am, we will not be able to live long enough to see first gen camaros come to the end of the clime in value and start to drop).
Don't pay too much just buy a little early!!!!

My advice is to sit down and really think of what you want out of your new baby. Original, resto mod, a little of both? Once you have decided what you want make a plan. Stick with that plan. Too many times I have seen people change their builds mid point and loose thousands of dollars. Even if you buy a part new, and change your mind , the part is used and you are not going to get what you paid for it back out of it.

So my advice is plan out your build. God Speed, and welcome to the addiction.

It's good advice Keith. I have an ever growing box of new in the bag/box parts because I shifted gears multiple times (pun intended) over the last 10 months. In all fairness, I didn't know what I didn't know and there is so much out there to choose from it's easy to realize you might want to do something different than you first envisioned.

My advice is try and buy your parts systematically and don't get too far ahead of yourself. I always try and take advantage of threshold sales at Summit or Classic Industries so sometimes I throw in items I think I will need and then realize later I don't - live and learn.

Thank you are for the welcoming and good advice, im happy i found this forum.

My number 1 goal for this car is to actually drive it. Its not a numbers matching original car, its not going to be a track or pro touring car.

But as its standing it pretty much needs everything. Minor body work, paint, front and rear glass, all of the interior and body emblems door handles/locks. I dont like the powerglide it has it either.

My goal for now is to get a nice coat of epoxy primer on it, get new glass, and start working on the interior/electrical.

Plan your steps and do your best to think ahead. For example it's a lot easier to install
the headliner prior to windshield and rear window. Also don't buy parts way ahead of
time as too often we've all seen parts purchased not fit but out of the return time frame.

Nice to know, i wanted to work on the dash and install an ac system as well before putting in the windshield.
