Joined up to checkout the classifieds and see what I might be able to find on here that might be around me Arkansas/Oklahoma/Missouri/Texas . Looking for a mostly complete but not expecting to find a restored car budget around $10-20k.
Streetside Classics might not be a bad way to go. They have locations in Dallas and Phoenix as well but I’m pretty sure they deal in restored cars mostly. Classiccars.com may also be an option to look into as they have postings for project cars at various stages as well. Just something to maybe look into that hopefully helps.
My suggestion is that if you know these cars shop however you choose. If you dont know these, or any classic car, spend time on line learning about them prior to setting foot in a dealer lot.
Many sites online to at least get an idea of what various stages of car are going for $$. Like mentioned, read and inquire before any purchase. If nothing else check your local Craig's list. At least it gets you able to see/feel get acquainted with what you want, don't want. In my opinion, try to stay away from dealers. They sell for premium and are not always as described. Not always, but for the most part. Good luck.
At any given time you can get a sense of what a classic cars value range is by doing some homework comparing cars offered for sale privately in the various sales places. Ebay, Hemmings, BAT, Craigslist, whatever, just google the car. You will start to see a range of expectations or hopes of decent cars and guys with too much money in them. Then think about what you are likely to get from a dealer who has to be in the price range to move his car and still must make money off it.
I know several people that have purchased vehicles from red line muscle cars in Wilson, OK. They were great to work with. They typically offer cars on their website when they pick them up at a pretty reasonable price. If no one purchases them in time, they will then do a restoration and you will obviously pay quite a bit more on the other end. https://www.redlineautosports.com/
I also like using autotempest https://www.autotempest.com/ it searches craigslist, ebay, autotrader, etc. all in one search engine.
Whatever you do, don't be in a hurry. You need to figure out what your must haves are (gotta be a 4 speed, or whatever) do as must research as possible, when you find your car, be ready to strike with cash in hand. Good luck finding your car.
