A New Guy Saying Hi
Was referred to this site by a fellow forum member from another forum -- said he has been having some really intelligent conversations with you folks. Not that I should be expected to contribute much towards that BUT I still wanted to check in and see what all the commotion was all about.
Listen, guys, I've never owned a Camaro but I have a little story regarding one: When I was in Vietnam back in 1966-early 67 there was a fellow that worked with me that had one of those new car brochures (sp?) you get from the dealer, you know the ones, has snapshots of the car, different color choices, all kinds of stats -- that kind of thing // well, that's all that guy could think about (wait, this is not one of those sad stories where the guy ends up getting killed the day his tour of duty was over -- so please don't jump ahead) what I wanted to tell you was he was saving his GI pay each month so that when he returned to CONUS (continental USA) he could run on down to that local dealership in his hometown and drive away in one of those brand new camaros. That's all he ever talked about. Not much else, just that dream car. Everyone else carried around photos of their best girl (some even had photos of their mother) but old Charlie had a picture of that camaro in his wallet and that brochure (sp?) -- tattered as it was -- ready to be shown at a moments notice when the subject would turn to cars. I'm sure he ended up getting that camaro, probably still has it today. Me -- I ended up buying a corvette (67) when I got back // couldn't afford the payments on it and ended up losing it. Often wished I had put my cash away like old Charlie did for his dream car // If I had, I'd still have that vet today for my grandkids (look but not touch). Smile.
