Question 69 Camaro speedometer question

I am new old viewer at Camaros.net so go easy on me. I have owned my '69 Camaro since '82 and we've been thru a lot. I have a question that I need help in answering.
I purchased a 140 MPH speedo and shaft assy for my '69 Sport Coupe from Year One. I checked the assembly instruction manual & service manual for details. The manual states a retaining ring is required. The assembly instruction book does not show this retaining spring. Help!

Re: 69 Camaro speedometer question

I believe starting in 69, the upper end of the cable just pushes on to the speedo, and is retained by a clip. The clip is a peice of spring steel with 2 holes punched in it, then it is folded in half. 1 hole fits on the back of the speedo, the second goes over the end of the cable. Just slide the clip over the speedo, then push the cable on, it should just "pop" and then be secure.

Thanks for the quick reply. YearOne does not carry this clip in their catalog.
Does GM still carry it or do you know a source?

Heck, I dunno... mines a 68, it screws on!
I seem to recall seeing them in the "help aisle" at auto parts stores....

Re: 69 Camaro speedometer question

I'll check it out. What a real pain. Checked out couple of other Camaro suppliers. No luck. Was hoping I'd be able to install new speedo & cable assy this weekend and hit the road before the snow hits.
