MSD Atomic EFI

Who has got it? It looks awesome and clean. I saw Hot Rod posted a picture of it on a Pontiac motor on FB and it was on a regular 4 barrel aluminum intake. It was very clean and looks like you could totally hide it with a regular 14" air cleaner. It looks and sounds really cool but, its expensive and I want to hear some feedback from regular car Joes who have tried it before I start socking away for one.

Re: MSD Atomic EFI

I agree it looks like a well designed piece. It'll be good to hear some first hand experience on install and the software.

Re: MSD Atomic EFI

I read an article about it last night. Said it got a SEMA new product of year award (not sure what that really says or if MSD is just a good sponsor and that recognition is merely pay-back). Worth checking into. It uses its own programmer vs. laptop. It's pricey but in line with others (and cheaper than some). I'm keeping my eyes on it as well.

My Retrotek Powerjection III won several SEMA awards when it came out. Trust me, it don't mean much.

Re: MSD Atomic EFI

i odered one and its been on back order for a month. it looks easier than the FAST unit and is priced comparable. i like the no return line and that it will adjust your timing with throttle position. I will keep you posted on it when i receive it.

**** keep us posted! I am curious to hear all about it: installation, set up and results. I hope it works good. I would love to install it on my cars and see if I can totally hide it where people looking at the motor (when the hood is up at the car events) have no clue its EFI. My 69 runs good, the plugs read good but the exhaust stinks like hell. It smells so rich that my clothes stink after I've fooled around in the garage. I'm sure an EFI would run better and maybe even help the gas mileage a little. Not that gas mileage was a priority but hey, gas is getting outrageous. I shoot and drive old race cars for fun. Ammo and gas just keep getting more and more expensive....WTH?

Read the installation manual. There is a scoring system as to whether it will work without a return line. Score 5 it will suppoasedly work, score 4 like mine and probably most others here and not so much.

Really! I got one of the E-curves when they just came out. It's been great. Still in the car 6 years later. Only downside is I have had to replace the rotor and cap every year for best performance. Here is my review from back then.

Re: MSD Atomic EFI

Got my kit the other night, was very surprised when i started reading the manual that came with the unit and there was a pink adendum page with score card saying that you have to score 5 points to run it without a return line. The way this score card is scored most everyone will need to run a return line unless your pump is in the tank. I called MSD and asked them abouit this and the reason for the return line is they had issues with one test vehicle pump overheating and shutting down. I also found out that if you do not run a return line that you cannot run a SS line, it has to be a rubber fuel line. With the PWM pump the rubber line expanded and give you constant presure. with hard lines you could see some jerk because of the PWM pump. I have decided to do a return line so I can use my new SS lines and I won't have to put the pump in the tank. The nice thing about this system is you can lock out your dist. and us this system to set you timing right from the handheld unit. You need to use an MSD ignition box and MSD dist. I think this is the best benifit of the system. Will non be installing for about another month yet. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
