Need LS1/T56 Install Help

So I had an agreement with a friend to help me install an LS1 & T56 into my 69 Camaro. I bought the LS1 & T56 and gave him $3500 to buy all of the remaining parts. Problem is, all we have acomplished is removal of the old motor & trans and the LS1 & T56 test fitted with nothing else done and it's a PITA getting him to come over and work on it for even short periods of time with weekly gaps in our progress. We had set end of April as our completion date although he has not ordered the parts which leads me to believe he misappropriated the funds. I gave him another check for $1k for new headers and coilovers which he has not cashed and I only owe him another $500 upon jobs completition. At this point, I'm thinking of two options: 1. offer an additional incentative of $500 upon jobs completition or 2. come to an agreement that he simply not ready, willing or able to work on the project and ask for my money back. I hate the 2nd option as it will impact our friendship, he won't likely be able to pay me and it leaves me needing to search out another "hobbiest" to help finish the project. Any other ideas or resources for finding someone else to help?

Before I offered any more money, I'd find out what happened to the original amount. What was he supposed to buy with the $3500, and what has actually been bought so far? It may be that he realized that he's working for free, since $3500 may not even cover the parts.

Why did you give him money to buy parts instead of just buying the parts yourself?

So thus dude's a "friend" but sounds like his ripping you off but you don't want to confront him because it will hurt the friendship?

Call him out on it. Either he'll be a stand up guy and make it right or if not who needs friends like that

Is there such a thing as a bad beer?

Charlie if it was me I would be bugging him so much about it that he would either finish the project or just admit to not being able to do it. If that does not work then it sounds like you are going to have to be harsh and possibly lose a friend. Oh and for sure no more cash until you see something for your money already.

Re: Need LS1/T56 Install Help

So you've bought the engine/tranny combo and have given him another $4500 for parts? I'd be on the horn and dropping by his place to see what's going on almost daily. LSx swaps are not difficult and 4500 for just parts is PLENTY. Hopefully he can do what's right and hold up his end of the deal.

I'm with the others, and don't ever even consider payment for working on friend's cars, beer is another story though...

Hmmm...depends on how he's doing the swap. If he's buying a new gas tank with integral pump, headers, swap mounts/crossmember, headers, new harness, etc., $4,500 might not be enough, and that might be what has the friend in trouble.......

Either way, the friend should have ordered the parts he was supposed to and kept maniac in the loop.

If you're still in this bind in a few months, let me know. It looks like I'll be moving to the Seattle area sometime in June and have done a couple of these swaps.
