put in new taillight harness. went to get new bulbs. sylvannia book say use 1157 bulbs for tail light and stoplight . worked fine for end lights (turn signal/brake. the innermost light are single element. i put a 1156 in but it was too bright. when i press my parking brake it is equal intensity ofthe 1156 light. what is the correct bulb for the innermost lights in the back.
The bulbs may be in backwards. With the running lamps on they should only be dim then when you put the brake they should be bright. As stated before we need more info, year etc.
While i don't recall the bulb numbers off hand, there are several bulbs that fit have the same base as the 1156, single element, but aren't as bright. I would shop the local auto parts store and compare. I keep thinking the bulb begins with an 8, like a 885 or something like that.
more info. my car is standard, not r/s. its a 69. not using side marker lights in front or rear. the harness i installed is an american autowire plug in kit. thanks
Run an 1155 for the inner light. It is the same intensity as an 1157. Like you said, the 1156 is too bright.
