Deluxe door panels and roll cage ???

Anyone using deluxe door panels in conjunction with their roll cage?? Mainly a 67. Am curious how much clearance the side bars allow and if it's difficult to reach the door handle. Any pixcs would also be helpful. I'm trying to decide which way to go on my 67 'Bird.

Re: Deluxe door panels and roll cage ???

Thanks for the pic. Helped. I did a better search and found a cpl of posts that stated the deluxe and standard will not fit with the arm rests. With the standard panele you need to do a drop bar, like yours, which is not NHRA legal. I'll just make me some custom flat door panels with out any arm rests.

Swing bars are allowed up to a certain speed. If your car needs to be certified for 9.90 or faster, there's a good chance this will not be allowed.

So it all really depends on how fast he wants to go with the car, under 9.99 he should be ok.

I dont know if the car is going that fast yet. The shop that did it. The owner had a 7.50 mustang and he was a BIG guy so he bent his bars like that. He got cert.

Re: Deluxe door panels and roll cage ???

Here's a post that might help. The legallity has to do where the bar passes between your shoulder and elbow.Blades looks like it might be close to ok. Most drop bars I've seen more closely follow the outline of the seat. Which is why they aren't legal.

Re: Deluxe door panels and roll cage ???

I had to change over to standard door panels from deluxe to have room for the sidebar.

The reason I made this decision is strength. The only problem with a 'bent' bar verses a straight bar is rigidity. The bent bar is bent and will 'fold up' at the bend where a straight bar won't.

God forbid, if there's a ever a chance I need the rollbar to work once, I want the strength to protect me. JMT's.

Hey guys, I gotta appoligize, I can't see the photo's until the firewall opens up here at work at noon time.
I thought we were talking about the swing out bars. I can clearly see now that when you mention drop bar, it is a drop bar and you guys are right, that bar will just fold up.
Plus if you go with a cage, you need to have a net, weather it runs 11's or 9's, you still need a net and there insn't a way to attach the bottom bar for the net when the side bar drops the way it does.

Ok question. I have a convert with with just the side bar in front of the main loop. Not sure how quick my car will be. But hopefully in the 11's. If I need to add a net how will it connect at the top ???

You only need the net if you go 9.99 or quicker.

I just found out that info. Plus I'll need a full cage. I should be ok without a cage or net. I guess technically, since I don't have an overhead loop, mine is considered a loop even though I have forward down bars and a net is not required for just a loop.
