Are superchips really super?

Automobile manufacturers must compete in a marketplace where fuel consumption, horsepower and torque are big factors, but they must also comply with emissions and other regulations. To meet these demands modern cars are controlled by computers. The computer, known as an ECU (Engine Control Unit), controls all engine settings like the air/fuel mixture, ignition timing and idle speed. A quick and easy way to do this and upgrade your vehicle’s performance is with a “superchip”, also known as an aftermarket performance chip. Aftermarket performance chips are made to adjust parameters to increase engine power and torque. The effects of the superchip can be easily reversed just by plugging it into the ECU and choosing the reset option, which will cause the ECU to revert to the factory settings. Overall, upgrading your ECU settings with a superchip is a fairly simple and low cost alternative for the everyday auto enthusiast.

Re: Are superchips really super?

Programing chips in principle is no different to dialing in moding dizzies/ carbs one is electronic and the other is manually making changes
The advantage of ECU and injection one has a far wider band width to play in.

What is common is the marketing propaganda BS... everything from using colour combos like reds and yellows that registrar in the brain to BS names.....from Superior to stuff like patriotic names
Then throw in the so called 'independent' BS that is never peer schrutenised, often only partly published by the marketing/ propaganda BS guys.

In saying that... yes like dialing in a carb engine to perform in a certain manner rather than to meet a wider customer/ consumer based market.....can make significant difference if done right.....usually it means the manufactures built in conservative margin to meet long term reliability warrantee issue is also removed....

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Are superchips really super?

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We can add that superchips (as stated the manufacturers) may adjust the fuel ratio, which can also increase the power or in opposite mode - improve the gas mileage. A good benefit is that you can change modes depending on driving conditions like Sport or Economy.
