I've been trying to remove my posi carrier from my 12 bolt rear end. I've owned the car since new and the carrier has never been removed in its 80,000 mile history. I've removed the axles, backed off the pinion nut, removed the bearing caps, but can't get the carrier to budge. I've tried a block against the pinion nut (backed off about 1/4") and hit the block hard with a 2 lb hammer, but nothing is moving. Is there something I've missed that needs to come out first? Thanks, Bill

In such cases, I have blocked the ring gear so it wouldn't turn and then turn the pinion. That would usually walk the carrier out of the housing. YMMV.

Ok, got it. I used a bar to pry against the case and the ring gear bolts and it came out quite easily. Problem solved.

It is a tight fit due to extra shims on carrier bearings setting preload.
Use a crowbar and pry out as straight as you can and keep shims sorted per side. Good luck
