my 69 camaro has the factory 14x7 Rally wheels on them which i wanna keep. I am unsure what size tire to buy, I want the Radial T/A's on it and currrently have 215/70/14 on it. The tires look a bit small but am nervous about what to buy because of rubbing issues i have read. I know 60's are shorter and wider but i don't know what would rub and not rub. Any feedback before spending my money would be really appreciated

Randy - Here are my tire sizing notes...

The F70-14 was approximately 26.2″ tall by specs.
And the equivalency chart says
E70-14 series tires are replaced by 215-70R14
F70-14 series tires are replaced by 225-70R14
F60-15 series tires are replaced by 235-60R15

BF Goodrich Radial T/A's website mentions the following suggestions:
225/70-14 is 26.5″ for the F70 series
215/70-14 is 25.9″ for the E70 series

Team Camaro members frequent tire sizes used on first gens and Chevelles.
215/70R14
Section Width: 8.46in
Rim Diameter: 14in
Overall Diameter: 25.85in
Sidewall Height: 5.92
Note: NO RUB

225/70R14
Section Width: 8.85 in
Rim Diameter: 14in
Overall Diameter: 26.40 in
Sidewall Height: 6.20 in
Note: MAY RUB IN FRONT OF SOME VEHICLES

225/60R15
Section Width: 8.85in
Rim Diameter: 15in
Overall Diameter: 25.62in
Sidewall Height: 5.31
Note: MAY RUB IN FRONT FOR SOME VEHICLES.

Personally I went with the 225/70R/14's on all four feet of my 69. No issues to report and I have original stock suspension and drive-train on her.
A ton of folks here suggested I go with the 225/60R/14's but I didn't want any rub issues common to that selection. And folks also suggested one size up front and one larger on the rear but I'm a symmetrical guy. :)

I'd be surprised if there are any 14" tires you can currently buy that will cause rubbing issues.

Thanks for the info guys. My 215/70/14's just look a bit small to me, my buddies say my car sit's a bit high to them and they think it should be lowered a bit. I guess i'm not sure but think a little change in tire size would make it look better, just don't wanna make the wrong choice after spending the $$$$$. I'll try to get a pic on here, Thanks

FWIW I've got 235/45/18's on my car now which is almost 26.5" in diameter. I used to have 225/65/15's on it which were about 25.5". I had no issues with rubbing whatsoever.

Get the bigger tires if you need to keep the 14" wheels.

IMO the front of your car needs to come down. Its probably at factory ride height, but would look 100x better with the front down an inch or two.

Thanks Jason, think that can be done with the 245/60/14's? they are lower but also wider. I think it is the stock suspension and didn't really wanna mess with suspension modifications

Hope this Pic worked...

Here is my car with 215/70/14s, but I have to get a new pic with the TAs on there now (same size). with the front end lowered more than yours, the fronts fill the well fine, rears are a little sparse :)

Both are great looking cars.

Nice Car Kevin! Orange always has been my favorite. Maybe I'll just keep the 215/70/14's on there for now and look at other Camaro's at local show's before deciding what change if any to make before spending the $$$ on tires and not being happy
