I have a 68 camaro that I just put 245 60R 15 on the back and 215 60R 15 on the front and they work great. I have seen 255 on a 68. That is the biggest I would use. The 255 are .20" wider than the 245, but are about an 1" taller.
ok i hate to ask this question again but the guy at the tire store tells me that the 245/60-15's wont look right on 7 inch rims. these are the rally rims im talking about. my car has multileaf susp. with stock KYB rear shocks, what is the biggest tire i can get on this without rubbing. thanks, jeff
my '69 has what came on it when i bought it, which is the 15" rally wheels with flat caps. i'm not sure if these are 7" or 8" wheels or what the back space is. on them are b.f. goodrich radial t/a's 235/60r15 front and back. i have just a little scrubbing on the passenger front if i go lock to lock with a passenger. with just me in the cat no scrubbing at all. if you hit a huge bump (i live in Mississippi and we'en aint got the best roads) the rear will bottom out, but not too bad. i like the look of having the same size tire on front and back. if you have a summit catalog handy, it has all the tire actual sizes and recommended rim width range in it.
I learned a very important lesson when I shopped for the 245/65 15's I eventually put on my 69 Z28... Not one of the tire shop guys agreed, nor had a clue what fit and what didn't. If I would have listened to the morons at the tire shop I would have come home with 215/75's on all 4 corners. I put the 245's on all 4 corners so I could rotate them, and like Mike, I want the same size all around look. I read enough of these posts to get an idea of what worked and what didn't. There's alot more good advice here than at Biff's Tire World.

OK Guys, This is the deal. I have a BIG BLOCK 69 ss/rs camaro with a brand new front big block springs as well as new multileaf springs (5 leaf in the rear). The car has 15x8 rallye wheels and the MAXIMUM tire size (60 series) that should be used on the front is P235 x 60-15. Rear tire size with this combination should be P255 x 60-15. With this combination the car sets approximately 10 inches off the ground at BOTH the front and rear of the car. IMPORTANT!!!! Do NOT use a tire/wheel combination that gives you less than 7-8 inches of ground clearance if you plan to drive your car on the street!!! With the above combination, you can use as large as a 275/60-15 on the rears but these tires are fairly TALL (28 inches)and I have known them to slightly rub on some 69's on the INSIDE of the tire because of their section width. The 245/60-15 will fit on the front but clearance is marginal at best when turning.
With ANY tire/wheel combination, be sure to get the front end aligned properly. I suggest the following specs:
CAMBER: -.5 Degrees
CASTER: Right Wheel: +3 Degrees
Left Wheel: +2.5 Degrees
Mark, Backspacing is 4.5 inches on 15x8 rallyes
