I have a stock GM Delco AM/FM mono radio in my 69 Camaro that has a problem. Does anyone have a troubleshooting guide for these radios?

When you first turn the radio on it works fine for aboout 1 second, then the volume decreases until it is just above background and it stays that way until you turn it off. If you turn it back on the volume works again for a second, then ramps down to background again.

The radio has been on a shelf for years, maybe I just need to run it for a while to heat it up, as the longer it is on the louder it seems to be getting (although it is a marginal increase and will take a long time to come back to normal if the rate of increase is constant)

There is a component that plugs in the back of the radio (in the back corner). Unplug it and check all the connections to ensure they are clean. You may also want to try spraying it out with some electrial cleaner.
