If you've been working with the fuel system or had a bad coolant sensor to start with and possibly got a lot of fuel through it, it sounds like the catalytic converter. A bad coolant sensor will often make it run rich. Will it not rev past 2500 in park, in gear, or both? Does it idle fine and run fine up until you hit a certain RPM? A failed catalytic will stop the exhaust up so it can't rev up under load.

I had a truck once that the rotor went out in the distributor while I was traveling between Statesboro, GA and Nashville, TN. I had to leave it at a dealership in Atlanta and get a company car to get to Nashville. Luckily, my company was in Atlanta. The dealership called me and told me that the computer was telling it to dump too much fuel in because they pulled a spark plug and it was pumping fuel out of the cylinder. I asked him, "Doesn't that sound like no spark? Why don't you try changing out the cap and rotor?" Unbelievable. So, they changed those out and it ran. When I was able to pick it up, it wouldn't rev past 3000 because all the raw fuel they pumped through it while monkeying around melted the converter and the exhaust couldn't flow.

So, long story short (too late), sniff the exhaust. If it smells like rotten eggs, it's the catalytic converter. Mine didn't really smell though so who knows.

Check engine light on? If so what codes? How much fuel pressure?
Does it run well up to 2500rpm?

could be that the switch on the shifter or trans or wherever that tells it what gear it's in might have gone bad or out of adjustment. they are set up with a rev limiter for when the car is in park.
