I am just another old guy trying to find that happy medium between the look of yesterday and the reality of today. I gotta get over and around disc brakes. I just cant see going bigger than 18" out back but i want a tire back there too. 295/45-18 Nittos are where i seem to be winding but i have never seen them on a car or a rack. I have DSE minitubs and will build the rear to suit so i am not too concerned with the commented issues.

That is quite narrow for a minitubbed car. 315's for 67-68 and 335's for 69 is the norm.

You can get 315 and 335 in 18 diameter. Most guys are running 18's. Very few guys run 20's.

I think that is the tire they run on Ford Lightning F-150's.

You are looking for a 5 inch sidewall? That is huge on an 18 wheel. The norm is a 30 or 35 tire with a 25-26.5 diameter. Maybe that is why you aren't finding them.

Exactly. Regardless of the performance issues the rubberband on a wheel look doesnt appeal to me. I dont think it works in 67 and 68 wheelwells, at least not for me. I like the look of the 20's and that big rubber on the big mopars but not 67/8 camaros. My son and i were sticking L60's up in the wheelwells to grab a couple of dimensions earlier this evening. Thats a 5-1/2" sidewall.

I've seen a 295/45/18 on a few second gens and they looked a lot better than expected. I run a 275/40/18 (not tubbed) because I wanted a little more sidewall than the 35's offered.

Nitto's tend to run a little narrow compared to other brands. Which tires are you looking at? NT555's or NT05's?

I personally wouldn't go any bigger than 18's or you will have a hoopdee car >

Mine in narrowed, mini-tubbed and fenders are rolled - hoping to fit 345's or at a minimum 335's on 18's. I'd invest in one of those plastic wheel tools that simulate the tire size, backspacing and tire bulge and double check. The restoration shop that my car is at has one and we will be doing that next week before the Black Friday Sales :thumbsup:

I think a 295/40/18 would look fine. That's only about 1/2" taller than my rear, which is only 1/4" more tire above and below the wheel itself. I can post a pic of the 275/40/18 Nitto 555 if you'd like.

Wow Brent, your car is real close to how I see mine in my minds eye. Deepwater blue, Billet Specialties Mags, trim under the door, and no spoiler, but close. Kinda retro, kinda not.
