I'm considering updating my rear to one of the above. From my reading/research, I'm leaning towards the 4-link. However, if I can get the funds saved up, I'd like to look into the Heidts IRS. This is for standard street use, occasional hard driving.. not a track car.

But I had a few concerns/questions about the Heidts IRS, and I'm looking for oppinions here. If you look at the IRS setup, the disc brakes are right next to the center diff. When you apply the brakes, the discs slow the axles, not the hubs of the wheel directly. My concerns is that the braking pressure is applied through 2 u-joints before the pressure is applied to the hub/tires. Does anybody else here think that could be an issue? In a standard setup, the braking force/pressure is applied directly to the hub/tire. I guess I'm concerned about the u-joints seeing a lot of force applied one way for acceleration, and the opposite way for braking... excessive wear? I know that drive shaft u-joints see pressure both ways too, but its not very much pressure during deceleration vs acceleration.

Please keep in mind I'm not trying to knock any products, I think the Heidts IRS looks pretty damn cool. I'm just looking at the braking philosophy.

I agree, that would be putting a lot of force on the axles instead of directly at the wheels. Of course it is rated at 600hp so I'd suspect not to many problems. any expert opinions?

Ya, 600hp is pretty stout.

Also, as I was just reminded, the rears are only responsible for about 15-20% of overall braking needs... maybe its a non-issue?

Would like to still get some additional oppinions on this :)

I wasn't aware of the Heidts IRS. I'll have to take a look at it. I watched as Newman Car Creations here in Templeton installed the C4 rear suspension in a 68. First time for them as they deal with "shoeboxes" and vettes. But wow, what a ride. If I could afford it, I would go with the IRS.

Ya, thats apart of the delema too.. $7500 is very steep. But I bet the center section is custom made, which is never cheap. I think their previous IRS was about $4500, but I don't think it was custom fit for a bolt in application for our cars. The new one is.

I did some more research. Jaguar did the inboard disc brake thing for 30+ years. So it does work. But, the Jag is a lighter car, and they did say they moved the discs out to the wheels to better control heat build up issues. But for casual driving, I don't think it should be an issue..... I'm still on the fence.
