Lets see now, the '64 and'65 stock solid lifter 327 Vette engine with the carb was a 365horser. The '66 hydraulic cam L-79 was a 350 horser. I lost track after the 350SS Camaro came out!!

Come on guys help us out here, please. pdq67

hi-po327,
Don't get put off.
I see this is your first post here and the people here really are nice.
But please look at the top of the page where it says TEAM CAMARO it's spelled out for you and spell it right in the future.
It's a pet peeve for most of us CAMARO owners!

I think most 327's are around 275 to 300 horses.

Hipo,

Yeah, just havin some fun with you...not tryin to Pi$$you off. Here is what I have for info:

First of all 327 not made after 68

68 Corvette 327

Code HP = 300 HP
Code HT = 350 HP

68 Camaro 327
Code EE or EA = 275 HP (Highest HP in 68 Camaro

68 Chevy II
Code ML or EP = 325 HP

There were other 327 versions during this year but I think you were only looking for the higher performance ones. Hope this helps...and yeah we really are good guys but we like to have fun too
...just a pet peeve of mine...that "Camero" thing

Robert, I have a large journal 327 code HF that the book says was built 68/69. I think 69 was the last year, or are you talking about the small journal?

ooops!!!
My mistake well... only partially I think. I should have said "No Hi-po 327's made after 1968. The General did have a 327 in 69 but was not available in the Corvette. It was only available in the Camaro and the codes for these engines are FJ,FK,FL,(FS & FT are listed but not clear about what they were except they are 2bbl carb engines...hp says N/A) but are not considered Hi-Po engines. That was what I was looking for in response to the question about hi-po 327's. These engines according to my reference book (believe me I am not smart enough to really know all this stuff
)only are rated at 210 with a 2bbl carb...not hardly what I would consider high performance
Your code HF engine is listed as a 250 HP version in the big Chebbies of 1968 with a 4bbl & a turbo trans. Nothing personal but, I was looking up the higher performance engines in 68...at least according to my reference book. I have found some minor errors before in this book so I guess it is possible the information is slightly tainted but I don't think so in this case because Year One catalogue appears to confirm the codes 69 Camaro 327 codes (FJ, FK, FL)

I hope this clears up some of the confusion

Is there any way of telling the HP rating on a CE motor?

Bottom line is pretty much heads, carb, and idle sound. Camel hump heads, either 1.94 or 2.02 inch valves, four barrel carb, smooth idle would be about 300 HP. Lumpy idle with or without solid lifters would go to 325 or with a big Holley carb to 350HP. Really hard to be exact with a crate engine. Darn good engines regardless.

The engine codes stamped onto the plate on the front of the motor under the heads are c5f121802 and v1121tyz.

Engine Suffix code TYZ indicates its a 1975 LS9 350 cubic inch engine rated at 165HP. The partial Vin Codes C5F indicates Chevrolet (?), 1975 model year, Assembled at the Flint Michigan Assembly plant.

Not a 327.
