I'm in the process of installing a 700R4 and pulling my 4 speed. What would be the best way to cover the shifter hole? I was thing of making a plate and bolting it through the shift boot holes caluking it good and drilling the shifter cable hole through that so if I decide to go back to a 4 speed I dont have a bunch of holes in the floor. Will this work?

That sounds like a plan. There are several electrical do-dads that are unique to 4 speed. (back-up light switch, clutch safety switch, etc) that you want to make sure you save. I probably don't need to say this, but take your time in removing them. Leave the wire cutters in the tool box.

The brake pedal is an easy swap.

With a numbers convertible, you may decide to go back to correct.

I've thought about doing this to my 68. Hope you documented the process and took pics. I don't think it will be that hard but I haven't done it before. Let us know how it went when it's all done.
