Hi guys, I'm new here an like to introduce me quickly.
So first I hope you understand me, my english isn't perfect, becaus my native language is german;)
I'm 22 yrs old and live in Switzerland. My car career startet very early. My dad had a 69 corvette stingray until I turned 18 and get my drivin license:( Then he bought a Sunbeam Tiger with 289ci ford v8 which also fun to drive. But the Corvette was for me like family, becaus I worked a lot on it with my father.

So that was the reason for my to buy my own chevy classic car. In January 2012 we went to San Francisco (my first time in the states). Then we looked around for a car for me. We found a nice 68 Camaro.
3 months later the car was in Switzerland.
I've done a lot of work on the car. I mounted all new bushings, freshly rebuilt big block (my head gasket broke:s), new koni shocks, new front brakes, master cylinder and brake booster, new exhaust system..

And for this winter I ordered a new tremek tko 600 5 speed conversion with new clutch, crossmember, offset shifter and driveshaft. So I don't think that it will be a borring winter for me;)

So now my real question. I want more power. I think a good option is to change the cam or the heads or maybe both. I have a 402 big block 2 bolt engine with edelbrock performer rpm intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb and a mallory distributor and msd 6al box and headers with 2.5" muffler.

So which heads can you recommend? It should be streetable with pump gas (95octane) and rpm range between idle and 5000-5500. More rpms doesn't make sens right? I looked for edelbrock performer rpm, I think for power you need to rev up to 6500. Then I found the e street set. But don't knwo more about. And the Brodix Race Rite BB O. So I hope you can help me. I don't want to spend to much money but the quality should be good.
How muh hp and torque can I expect? Anyone has a similar setup? All those kits come without rocker arms, you recommend roller rockers or stock steel stamped rockers?

Thank you so much!

Hi Tim ! Sounds like a very nice Camaro.

The Brodix race rites are good. The 270's are the best for a 402. Edelbrock also makes a good head with small chambers (110 cc). You want a small chamber so you don't drop the compression.

A hydraulic roller cam would be good too. Don't go too big. Contact Chris Straub here about the cam. He goes by "cstraub."

The factory stamped long-slot rockers are fine up to .580" lift :

And if you have a chance to get a 454 block, the bigger bore will breathe better than the 402. You can use your crank and rods; buy new pistons and have a 427.

Good luck ! :D

Hi, thank you for the answers.

So I prefer to do only some upgrades, because v8 engines are expensive and rare in Switzerland and also machining shops are expensive.

Can I run Brodix or Edelbrock heads with unleaded fuel?
You know the max rpm for my 2 bolt engine? I think something about 5000rpm. Would this limit be higher with other heads?

So which heads would you recommend? Edelbrock or Brodix? I prefer Edelbrock, because they have a kit with a cam, but also Brodix sounds good. I would be very happy if you could give me maybe a name with part number. Will there be an interference between cam and valves with new heads? I read, that the Brodix rr heads have the same valve position, so there should be no problem. And would you change to roller lifters, only roller rocker arms or stay with stock rocker arms? I think I have no retainer for the cam, so the cam will maybe move forwards with roller lifters.
And if I choose the Brodix rr heads, can I stay with the performer rpm intake and 600cfm carb? Or which parts do I have to replace? Recommendation for cam?

And what means retro kit? Cam, lifters, rocker arms..?

I know I have a lot of questions, but I'm happy and grateful to get some help;)

And now something for your eyes ;)
