Hi Guys.

I (we) tried to drop a 70 or so 402 (don't ask, it was supposed to be 68' 427) into a 69 camaro this morning. The car is/was a 350 4 speed car. I bought new bb perches and new BB rubber mounts.

We used the bellhousing from the 350, which I understand should be OK (ie same flywheel etc)?

Here's the rub, the engine is at least 1" off on the pass side (1" too far back, twoards the heater core).
Could we have the wrong mounts? Or is there some adjustment on the tranny cross member that we are missing? Any ideas?

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated!

As in you need another inch for it to fit?

Big blocks used a completely different blower housing and heater core. The hoses come out over by the inner fender. The part toward the middle of the firewall is nearly flat so there's room.

It fit fine once we found the tranny adjustment. There is little room to spare where the heater hoses go, but doable. I see why they moved them to the center for the big blocks.

Hi Rich,

I also have a 70 402 that was supposed to be a 68 396/375 hp. I'm looking to build the engine up a bit and was wondering if you know what HP your getting out of it and what you changed to increase HP if you built it up. I'm just trying to figure out where to go with this one.

Thanks
Ray

I used a three hole poly tranny mount and bolted up the center hole to the pass. side crossmember hole..

AND you are right, it is tight at the heater outlets.

Now I see why my 409 "W" motor fit in my car years ago like it grew in there by putting it on the SB frame and rubber mounts. It wasn't moved over like the BB frame and rubber mounts move's the BB's... "W" motor cast-iron exhaust manifolds and all fit fine!!
