I have a 1967 427 block out of a 67 impala SS. I am wondering if this would be too much power for a convertible. I guess I would need sub frame connectors, would the motor mounts have to be moved or changed? My car is all original with a 275 hp 327 and 2 speed powerglide, the motor needs to be rebuilt and like everyone else on this site I am not sure if I should yank the motor and store it, then install a new motor to have fun with or keep the car mostly original and just cruise... Either way I am going to pull the motor and trans and rebuild them. The 427 is just the block, 60 over, I would need everything else new which would make it a lot of fun and expensive. Maybe I should just get another car, not so original, possibly a 67 impala to drop this motor in....

why not just build the 427 and store the 327, you have the block and if it is clean and the machine work is done, I would think you could build the motor for about 3000, not going to find a crate any cheaper.

If the car is solid (good rockers, all the bracing underneath intact), you'd be okay with a mild big block and no connectors. That's what I'm doing with the 69. The 68 had rotten rockers, so I put weld-in connectors in. With a car as nice and pretty original, as your car appears to be, I wouldn't want to tie the frames.

If I had a car that nice, I'd just rebuild what I had, although I'd store the glide and put in a TH350. That'll really improve performance, and you can do ther things internal to the motor to wake it up a little without changing the stock look.

It's a constant battle on what to do, but in the end I think I will rebuild the original and keep it stock looking. Maybe port and polish the heads, new valve seats for unleaded gas, port and polish the intake and then just replace the guts with good high quality stuff, forged pistons etc, maybe a holley 4 barrel instead of the qudrajet 4 barrel...just thoughts at this point.
