I can get a 454 4 bolt block that has been bored 40 over and a set of main caps(not from this block) for 150.00. How much do you guys think I would have into the machining of it ? I know the caps would have to be fitted and line bored, what else would I need done, and should I just take it to 60 over? Thanks

k,
The biggest problem with this is trying to find a set of caps that will actually work. The rear one with the thrust is the worse one to try and match. The guy that does these for me has a big crate full of old caps he has saved off junk blocks. You usually need to go through quite a few to find five that will work. Price around this area would be over $200.

Something to keep in mind is that I purchased 2 "bargain" Craigslist 454 core blocks that were both destroyed (one cracked and the other had severe cylinder bore damage) I ended up buying a core block from my local machine shop. I highly recommend this since they will stand behind the core. If it does not check out to meet your specifications they fish another block out of their collection for no additional charge. 2 Bolt Main 454 cores are readily available and most shops in my area sell them for about 200-250.

Just a point of reference.

Additionally, I bought a 2 bolt block and had them install the 4 bolt conversion kit. Most of the cost in this option is in the machine work that you are already contemplating.
