I purchases new rear KYB Excel gas shocks (KYB343135) and they are short by 2". Top is bolted in and I have a gap at the bottom. I plan on loosing the rear suspension and bouncing on car to see if that helps but the shock will be fully extended. The car is a convertible with stock mono leafs, any thoughts on why thanks in advance.

Did you put in some really heavy duty, or re-arched, leaf springs? Should work fine.
Have any pictures?

I used the same shocks (same mdl#) on my 67 with monoleafs. The only issue I had was having to use the old hardware for the bottom mount.

All set, both shocks were "stuck" so I gently prayed them down and they extended to where I needed them.

Every 1st gen I have ever worked on the rear shocks seemed too short. I assume the body is on jack stands and the tires are hanging on the suspension. Put a floor jack under the diff and jack the rear end up until the shocks line up...
