Noticed something odd tonight when we were polishing the stainless pieces that the top of the door panel slides into. The passenger side and both rear pieces were 3/8" wide and were ribbed on both sides with a 1/4" or so flat area between the ribs. The drivers side had a 1/2" wide piece that is kind of V grooved in the center. I know the door was replaced at one time cause it was originally green not purple like the rest of the car. Anybody know what this piece is? The car had a deluxe interior so Im guessing this piece is used on the standard 67 interior or is possibly a 68 item. Thanks.

Perhaps its off a Firebird. 1967 was the only year that used the top trim piece to hold the door panel. 68 & 69 had a full panel and didn't have the solid metal top section on the door. I'm also fairly sure both the standard and deluxe interior for 1967 used the same top molding.

Maybe someone else can shed additional light on this.

For 67 the door panel top deluxe trim has the two ribs and the top standard trim has the shallow tapered V-groove. They both are about 3/8" chrome exposed. Though, the V-grooved standard might be a tad wider.
