Hi everybody. I own a 72 camaro and want to replace my ordinary cluster(that only has speedo), to one with all gauges from a z28. Is this possible with my wiring or do I need to get another harness for the tach and gauges? Any advice on this procedure would be appreciated. Thanks. Jim

JIM:

You can find a U14 Special Instrument Cluster package in about any 2nd Gen Model as the Option was not Z28 Specific. If your Lucky you might find one specific for your 72 Model in which case will just bolt in without any special wire harness save for running a few Ground Straps... etc. There are U14 assemblies with the appropriate wiring plate on eBay but must say the 70 to 73 clusters are getting very scarce and verily expensive if in good condition. Only the 70 models had 150mph Speedo which came standard including 6 cylinders the models.

Always unmount your Steering Column and let it hang and disconnect the battery before you attempt to work on the Cluster or you will short the Head light Switch, break plastic tabs and scratch the steering column ... etc.

Hey there - I am new to Post here. I went through that very thing when doing a 72 Camaro. I went through classic industries and ordered 1. Guage Cluster w/tach Printed Circuit 2. Odered the harness for Guages vs standard with lights, which is different, includes Center console connector 3. assembled printed circuit, installed guages, then test fit harness and used ohm meter to ensure proper connection - new bulbs as well. installed and works great - tach seems off a bit at low RPM compared to Dwell meter. Converted to OEM HEI distributor from points also while harness and engine were out. easier when sitting on cross member verses hanging over a fender :)

Hope this helps - had some gremlins too with lights and horn kind of funny until I needed to get safety inspected. right turn signal caused Horn to blow at each blink.
