Im putting in a 8.5 Nova rear axle in my 69 Camaro, it currently has 308 gears, open.
Im going to get it rebuilt with 373 gears, 30 spline, and c clip eliminators. The car is going to be just a street cruiser. Do I need a posi unit or not.

I'd install a posi if it were mine but certainly not a Detroit Locker...

I have a 8.5 posi from a 73 nova my car. Actually the posi unit came from a mid 70's trans am. Rebuilt it with new gears and a standard NAPA kit. It holds up well under my 500 HP LS3. Now honestly I have never put slicks on it and REALLY given it a try. I kinda like smelling rubber burn.

Posi. If trying to save a few bucks just get the stock eaton type . Agreed not a locker...not a good application for that . Or just try to feel good about smoking one tire.
PS what kind of power plant are you sporting?
