Hello need help. 2 problems. trying to resurrect '89 Camaro RS. Starter only engages when jumping silinoid. Also, fuel pump runs for 4 sec and then stops no fuel to Throttle Body. Are problems related or whats fix for fuel pump? Thanks, Ricscamaro
The ECM will run the fuel pump for a couple of seconds after the switch is turned on to prime the system. Beyond that, the ECM needs to see pulses coming from the ingition module before the fuel pump will be turned on. If the engine isn't cranking and / or the ignition module isn't feeding pulses back to the ECM, the fuel pump won't run.
I'd focus on the cranking issue first. Are you getting 12V to the solenoid when you crank it? If not, is the ignition switch providing 12V when cranking? The answer to these two questions will narrow down the possibilities considerably. Do you have a security system that may be interrupting power to the solenoid?
thankyou for your replys.Tried changing out ignition switch with new, no change. How would i test neutral safty switch? tried starting in park and neutral and then all positions.
Only anti theft is chipkey as far as i know. have original key as far as i know.will check silinoid next. where is it? behind kick panel on drivers side? thanks RicD
have you thought about haveing the ECM flashed? might be something in your ECM have a crack attack. my chevy did that to me once and i spent alot of money chasing my tail and ended up with an empty wallet and my **** in my hand.
