There's a place in Fort Worth TX called Old Air Products 817-531-2665, and one in Tampa called Classic Auto Air 813-251-2356. (Area code might be 727, now) Don't know if they rebuild POA valves, but I think they have a conversion kit to eliminate them.
I go in and change out the evaporator core. It's not that hard to change.
In doing this get an evaporator core for a 78 Olds 88. This should bolt right in and then you will have an orface tube system. No more stuck expansion valves, and jicky POA valves, just one little orface tube, that works fine.
I have the poa eliminator on my daily driven 68. I live in AZ. I looked into the aftermarket poa's, they didn't look even close to the origional.
My AC is very cold, unless it's [email protected] out. If it's less than [email protected] it blows out at less than [email protected] i've seen [email protected] a few times.
It does warm up when you are driving 65-70 mph. I've havn't figured that one out yet.
I've tried to keep my car as factory new looking as possible, but I've had to many weird problems with poa's. The eliminator does not look unsightly.
The eliminator came from old air products, and has a cycling switch.
I have a cowl ind. hood, but I took it off and bought a repro SS hood.
The evap. area looks similar, I suppose you could gut a poa, and screw on a low pressure switch on the low side service port. Basically the eliminator is an aluminum tube with 2 service ports, one for service, the other for the low press. switch. There are no modifications to the evap., and the same expansion valve is used.
