I have my front end apart--replacing tie rods--ball joints and control arm bushings--Im using the solid afco bushings, upper bushings will be tacked in when I assemble them, but what about the lower bushings, they are lightweight bushings with teflon insert with the steel sleeve that goes inside the bushing, does this need to be welded? The lower bushing slides right into the lower a arm.

Are these the two piece solid looking bushings with a grease fitting? If so, I believe we used lots of these on the farm as they were constantly needing a shot of lube , not to mention having to wipe up the excess lube that squeezes out and gets elsewhere on the frame. . They did wear out eventually or had so much slack in the bodies that they had to be replaced.

You might be better off using a poly bushing from Energy Suspension.
