I just bought a 350 engine that needs some cleaning up. I am going to prep the block for paint and try and buff up the intake. The edlebrock intake is aliminum but it looks like it has corrosion on it and has lost its luster. The intake is rough aliminum. What is the best method to buff up or should I paint it an aliminum paint? Also what is the best prep for the block and can I use a spray bomb to paint?

See if you can find anybody with a bead blaster. That will make it look brand new.

I've found that VHT Brake and Caliper paint holds up to the gas and heat very well, and looks like natural cast aluminum.

The finish of an original manifold is smooth.
If you must bead blast do it very very lightly, then clear coat with high temp.
Those intakes were not painted.
Try aluminajelly first - that might be all you need.

oops.. Edelbrock intake - Blast away!!
