Hey guys. Now that the 98 Camaro alternator is under load (just got Vintage air up and running) the engine bogs and lights dim at 11.5 V before the thing kicks in a goes to 13.9 volts. Anyway to get it to turn on sooner?

It currently has a .5 Ohm resistor in line per suggesetion of other members.

PS, larger alternators simply don't fit.

Thanks.

PS takes 3-4 mins to turn on after start.

How long is the time to kick in?
Some alts require some rpm to get excited.
It will be interesting what others have to suggest.

That alt has a built in 2.5 second load response built in. It should come up to max voltage shortly after 2 and a half seconds. Possibly a little longer if the battery is low. You may have it wired wrong. Can you tell me how you wired it?

It was wired two wires on a four wire plug. Center wires B and C were hooked up. It was kicking in after 5-10 mins or so but sometimes not at all.

Eventually, I got a fix for the ECM to tell it to control the Alternator voltage versus it doing it on its own. It seems to work now. Time will tell.
