Anyone know best way to loosen aluminum heads without damaging? I have tried tapping screwdriver in along the edge of one end with hammer and they do not appear ready to budge. Tried taping in a putty knike and neither seems to budge them. Not sure about moving on to a bigger hammer and prybar. :(

Install a spark plug or two (along with several head bolts in the corners with @1/4" clearance between them and the head ) and hand (or very slowly) crank the engine into a compression cycle - they should come loose and rise up a bit ...

Try putting a ball pein hammer handle in an exhaust port and yanking away!

Intake ports works also..I am fine with this approach..but do not allow the tin head to rise above the steel locating dowels and slide downward. You will mar the head surface. One loose headbolt installed will allow you to break the seal and not have the head end up the floor.
