I got the ambulance ,it run inspite of needing carb.motor sounds solid.
the #'s are :

vin # CCS336B10993(PICK UP CHISSIS)

block = C6B108993
PASS. SIDE HEAD = 338781
has guide plates and screw in studs

option decal in glove box says LF8

breather decal says 91 or better octene recomanded

also has a 400th trans,
and a posi (truck) 1 ton rear(for sale)
would these numbers tell the compression or torque & horse power.

I can't find any info. All the sites I tried claim that the VIN must be exactly 17 characters in length. Any letters/numbers missing?

I double cheched the numbers after I posted the above,I notice the block # was the VIN # that was the only # on the frt pad behind the alt.
also the the only VIN# I could find on the chassis was A plateriveted to the door sill above the latch catch also had some tire psi's on it along with axle weights .

4 Speed - what's the casting date on the heads? If they're early-mid 70's, then those are pretty good large oval port heads with good quench.

the ambulance is a 76 ,breather say assembly date is oct 75.
I'll pull the valve cover again and look for thoughs castiing #'s

4 speed - those are good heads you've got. Lingenfelter recommends either the 041's or the 781's from the mid 70's because of their better quench area. He claims an additional 10-15 hp over other castings.

You can do lots of things with the heads depending on the intended application. If you're looking to street/strip, then stick some large valves in and find a reputable head porter and finish with a good 3 angle.
