After weighing the costs to rebuild my 327 the way I wanted, I've decided to pull the trigger.

This will serve as the start of the build thread. Going to take a few months to acquire all of the parts and such, but will update this as I begin work.

Good for you, I thought about this same route, had a great LS1 for it but ended up going old school 383 stroker. I like how it ended up but I still want someday to have an LS powered 1st gen.

I had a similar situation, rebuild an old 350 and 4 speed or go the LS route. I went LQ9/T56 and couldn't be happier.

Same results here. Cost drove me to pick up an LS for an old Vette. It was less than what I spend on a SBC build.

Don't feel bad. I've done everything twice on mine as well. I used the Tanks Inc. one on my build with a Walbro 255. Nice setup.

Don't forget Tanks has a 10 micron inline fuel filter with AN fittings for around $30 you will need as well...:thumbsup:

Rebuilding an engine today unless you can do a lot of the work yourself can be quite expensive just in parts alone unless its a 350 Chevy. A 283 will cost you more for the parts. Unfortunately our hobby has become very expensive. The days of going to the boneyard for a 35 dollar fender a hundred dollar Muncie and a good running 327 4barrel for a hundred twenty five are far over.We used to go to Flynn's or Paddy,s as they had the best prices . If you pulled it yourself the prices were better but we are talking 40+ years ago. Alex

Needed a way to roll my new subframe around but only had fourth gen wheels and the backspacing was all wrong. Solution...

2" spacers from ebay for $50.

Ordered my first batch of parts not even really involved with the swap. A lift bracket kit, spinnable engine stand, ls1 specific bolts to mount it to the stand, intake egr blockoff plate and a new clutch alignment tool.

Engine gets here Wednesday then its time to pull the tranny, get it mounted to the stand and start to pull things like the harness, exhaust manifolds, egr system and start to clean it. Probably going to end up painting the block chevy orange and keep the heads bare aluminum. Undecided on the intake, but leaning towards just leaving it alone or possibly a dark grey/gunmetal color.

Had my brothers shop guy run it over to my house this morning

Yanked off all the EGR stuff and got the factory manifolds removed. The front bolt on the passenger side snapped off and the rear bolt on the driver side snapped. I'll have to have my welder buddy come over and weld a nut on whats left so I can get them removed.

Got my new cherry picker and engine stand assembled as well as got all of the wiring harness removed and started with pulling all of the accessories and motor mounts off. Once I get it stripped down I'll be able to yank the tranny and get it mounted to my stand and regain some room in my garage.

back to getting this crap done....had a major setback in that when I pulled the motor apart it turns out the guy sold me a junk motor that had water in it and rusted together one of the cylinders, the valves had obviously hit the pistons, pushrods were bent, etc. After dealing with PayPal and amex it looks like I'm finally going to get my money back and this crap will be picked up in a week.

So I just bought this, should have it in a week

Iron 6.0 LQ4 with fresh rebuild. New rod and main bearings, ARP rod and head bolts, all new gaskets
LSA heads, new springs and retainers. 5 angle valve job, and decked.
LSA Supercharger with solid isolator, stock Lid
LS9 62lb injectors
Olsen Machine Pulley adapter kit to run LS1 accessories with the blower.
Olsen Machine Fuel Rails

Should go nice with my V2.
