when installing a new tank.

o, and anther thing. on the rubber oring that goes in between the tank and the sending unit, there is a square tab twards the inside of the ring, does that need to go anywhere in particular.

thanks for all your help.

Two strips go between the tank and the trunk reinforcement, two go between the tank and the tank hanger straps, and the 2x3 (guess) pad goes in the middle of the tank, betweent he tank and the underside of the trunk pan.

The square tab goes by the sending unit electrical connection. The thin strips go on top in the depressions that line up with the gas tank supports so there isn't chafing.

so let me get this right.

thick little pad = over the sending unit where the lines exit the tank.

wide thin strips. go between the tank and the straps.

skinny thick strips that have raised edges. go between the tank and the trunk bottom.

do i have the longer stips confused, i thought for sure that the skinny ones went between the tank and straps. and the thick ones went between the tank and trunk

The strips without lips go between the tank/trunk floor. JohnZ's comment is interesting. It was a real pain putting the thicker strips between the straps/tank. Made fitment a challenge.

ricks firstgen tech said the ones with the raised edges, lips whatever, go on the straps. thats why they have the raised edges, so they dont slide off the straps. the wide thin ones go between the tank and trunk. all were right about the little pad.

thanks. just thought i would let you know.

mine didnt have em either and im sure it was the orig tank etc. because it was in such bad shape, however, im not going for original resto, it will essentially be a thirdgen car, with a 1st gen body.


thanks though, im sure there is a reason that they now have those other straps too. it is an "anti-sqeek" kit so it must have something to do with that

You didn't see my post because I didn't do one - someone must have confused me with someone else. In any event, there are no anti-squeak pads on the tank straps - only on top of the tank.

The long, skinny anti-squeak pads go on top of the tank where it matches up with the two mounting "saddles" on the underbody, plus one anti-squeak "pad" that goes on the middle of the tank just rearward of the meter unit. All is shown very clearly in the A.I.M.

A.I.M. is the Assembly Instruction Manual the plant used to build your car. All the resto parts houses have them for about $20.00. You should also have the Chassis Service Manual and Chassis Overhaul Manual, and the Fisher Body Service Manual for body-related stuff. About any question you'd ever have is answered when you have the right reference material.
