I am going to look at buying 4 rallye wheels this weekend to put on my 68 vert. They are 14 x ? (I assume 6 or 7). Two have I think 235x60 BF Goodrich. Is that a good tire size for my car? I was thinking a taller tire would be better - a 70 or 75 maybe? Obviously I don't know much about this stuff.

They are probably 14x7 a 235x60 would look real good on all 4 corners.a 70 or a 75 series would be too skinny. The numbers at the begining of a size is the width, the 50,60,or70 is the series(the height) of the tire.A 235x60 tire means 235 is the width and it is a 60 series tire.IMO a good choice for the stock look.

Just a little clarification.

Sidewall height is a percentage of the tread width. So a 235/50 tire would be 235mm wide and sidewall would be 117.5mm (235x50%). A 235/70 would be 235mm wide and the side wall would be 164.5 (235x70%).

A 70 series may look skinnier than a 60 series due to the tall side wall.

A 60 series on a 14" rim may not fill the wheel well very well.

If you can, get the stamped numbers off the rim. They will be located at the valvestem. They can be decoded to tell you exactly what they are.

Winch,
My wife's 68 has 235-60r15 on all 4 corners.
The bfg's she has have no rubbing issues at all.

Take a look at the signature picture for an idea of what the look like.

If you have front discs, make sure the wheels fit in the front, before making any decision.
Good Luck

I just brought one of the wheels (w/o tire) home to try it on my 68. All 4 are code YW - 69 Chevelle I think. It has 4 1/2" back space. How do you measure the width? From the inside of the lip to the inside or the outsideof the lip? They measure 6 inside and 7 outside.
I have front disc that came off a 72 Monte Carlo. When I put it on the front it fits but it sure look like it sits way out. The guy has them on a 68 that has drum brakes in the front and seem to fit OK. I guess I'll find out when I bring one with a tire home.
