I was wondering if anyone has ever ran across a '69 L-78/L-72/L-71 car that originally came with 291 heads?

Or, has anyone ran across a set of 840 heads that originally came with a 1.88 exhaust valve?

The reason I ask is that I recently ran across a set of 840 heads that are uncut and came originally with 1.88 exhuast valves.

As far as I know the 291 heads were all service heads they came both ways I have one set that came with a 1.88ex and another set that came with 1.72ex. The 840 heads all had the 1.72 ex valve as far as I know

I have always read that Chevrolet quit making the 840 heads around May of '69, and production of the '69 Corvette and Camaro continued until the first part of 1970, so I was wondering how many '69 originally got the 291 heads. In '70, the L-78/LS-6 Chevelle and the L-78 Nova used the 291 heads, so I assume they would use them on the Camaro/Corvette as well, since they were all basically the same engines. Any thoughts guys?

As I understand it, Oval ports are 1.72 ex, Rectangle,or large port heads are 1.88 ex, and aluminum 842 heads are 1.84 ex. so what you have is how they came.

All big port closed chamber heads came with 1.72 ex valves except the LS6 heads which had 1.88 I have not seen a real LS6 apart so I can't say if they came with 291 heads but when you bought service heads over the counter they were 291s. One of my sets was listed as a marine option it had 1.88ex valves the other was just a replacement head it had 1.72 valves.
