I have the original 283 .030 in my 66 Pickup, have always wanted to stroke it.
I scored a new set of .030 307 TRW forged dometop pistons on ebay for $150, and a machinist buddy says he has a 327SJ crank he'll give me. The compression height of the pistons is perfect. 283 and 307 are both 3.875 bore. 283 is 3" stroke, 307 and 327 are 3 1/4".
Anyone ever try this combo?
How about the Twisted wedge heads on a SBC? They make a 1.94 head that would be great on a 283, but I don't know anyone who has tried them. 2.02 won't clear 283 cylinder walls I hear.
Thanks
Tim
