I went to look at a "DZ 302" block today (looking for an original for my Z)and what this guy had was a 3970014 block (350) with a June 18th 1970 mfg. date, and 2 heads that looked like 3891482 and 3891432 that were camel humps with angled plugs. I cant find any reference to these heads anywhere. while I told the guy I knew this wasnt a 302, I told him I will call him and tell him what he did have...

Any help is appreciated.

The heads should be 3991492's (angle-plugs). They were destined to be installed on production line vehicles but as far as I know they never made it that far. They were sold over the counter however. They should have a heat
crossover in the center of the intake side. They had another version, a straight plug #492 as a replacement for the 186's. The block, #3970014, was used from '69 thru '72, and could be a 2 B.M. or 4 B.M. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. The '492 heads work excellent, we have a set on a '62 Vette, pro-streeter running mid to low 10's on a 355" unit. The heads were built in 1980 for him and he still uses the car. These were the predecessors to the later '292 cast iron Turbo's, which didn't have the center heat crossover, and then the '034 cast iron Bow-Ties. I still have a few sets of the 492's on the shelf.

Great. thanks for the info. that explains why I couldnt find them... but the last 4 numbers sure looked like 482 or 432...
